Peace & Stability Amid Life’s Chaos

Life can sometimes feel like a whirlwind of chaos and challenges, leaving us overwhelmed and uncertain. In these moments, it’s essential to remember that we are not alone. The storms of life—whether they be personal struggles, family issues,  professional setbacks, or global crises—can test our resilience and faith.

In the midst of this turmoil, faith can be a steadfast anchor. Reflecting on biblical passages like Psalm 46, which was penned during a time of war and chaos, reminds us of God’s unwavering presence and faithfulness. The psalmist declares, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” This assurance encourages us to seek solace and strength in our faith, trusting that God is with us even when life feels uncontrollable.

Moreover, it’s during these challenging times that personal growth and resilience are often forged. Just as storms test the strength of a tree, life’s difficulties can help build our character and deepen our faith. By clinging to our spiritual beliefs and staying connected to supportive communities and real friends, we can navigate through the chaos with a sense of purpose and hope.

As I reflect on the Sunday sermon this morning, the reality of God’s faithfulness deepens in my heart. Attending church and engaging with spiritual teachings provides a wellspring of comfort and guidance and can offer profund insights. The preacher had highlighted how Psalm 46 was composed in a backdrop of conflict and uncertainty and yet radiates a message of divine protection and peace. The preacher also threw a challenge to us, and I paraphrased: “While some people run away from God during chaos in their lives, some run to God. Who do you run to in times of chaos?

Twice was a verse repeated in the same chapter: “The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.” – Verses 7 & 11. Each verse of chapter 46 of that book of Psalm is prophetically powerful:

Verse 1 says: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

At one point in time, we may find ourselves in trouble of any kind. But for those who know their God and who have made a covenant of peace with Him through salvation, God will be right there with them to strengthen them in chaos and defend them in the battles of life. As we rest in Him as our refuge, He will stretch out His hands to help us.

Verse 2 says: “Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;;”

– Our faith in God nullifies fear regardless of how fierce the battle seems because those who know their God shall be strong.

Verse 3 says: “Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah”

Some chaos could be really, really bad and hopeless, yet with God victory shall not be impossible because with God, all things are possible.

A songwriter wrote:

“The blood that Jesus shed for me
Way back on Calvary
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power
It reaches to the highest mountain
It flows to the lowest valley
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power”

Verse 4 declared: “There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.”

– We can not underestimate the significance and power of a flowing river. Connecting with it means connecting with the life – sustaining force of life. Max and David Sapp threw more light to this verse in their song titled ‘There is a River’:

“There is a river, and it flows from deep within, There is a fountain that frees the soul from sin, Come to this water, there is a vast supply, There is a river, that never shall run dry”.

Faith in Christ is not passive but active. It flows freely in truth, purifying as it goes. We must avoid staying loosely at the edge to prevent getting entangled in the stagnant riverside mess and being washed off the bank.

Verse 5 says: “God is in the midst of her. She shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.

– When God is at the center of our lives, we will emerge with shouts of praise and gratitude, on the other side, adoring Him. Help will always come at the right time, after we’ve learned what we need to learn. Thanks to our Lord Jesus, who is a covenant-keeping God. Emmanuel, God with us!

Verse 6 says: “The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.”

The power of God is unbeatable. Who can stand against the Lord and prevail? No one and nothing! He spoke to the Red Sea, and it parted. He spoke to the womb of a virgin, and a pregnancy was established. He spoke to the grave, and the dead came back to life. The wall of Jericho was brought down by the power of God’s words. At the mere mention of the name of Jesus, every knee bows. It is the name above all names, the Power above all powers, and the Authority above all authorities. When God speaks into our lives and into the lives of our loved ones, every intruder is frozen for life.

Verse 7 says: “The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah”

– The Children of God are the city built on a hill, the congregation of faith. This is our identity in life through Christ. This is who we are, the members of the body of Christ. The heirs to the throne of grace, peculiar people, a royal priesthood who show forth the praises of our God in whose midst the Lord dwells and reigns. The Lord of Host is with us.

Verse says 8 extended the invitation to everyone: “Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has made desolations in the earth”

– How can we know and believe if we stay distant and judge from afar? Come to God, for He will do you well. Come and see that our God is good. Come just as you are. God is not willing that any should perish but that we all repent from self-management and all forms of sin and accept His salvation, which brings countless unbeatable rewards.

Verse 9 says: “He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire.”

– There are deep spiritual battles in this world that many are unaware of. But for those who know that their Redeemer lives, God becomes the captain of their army. When the servant of the man of God, Elisha, was afraid upon seeing the intimidating array of warriors against them, Elisha prayed to God to open his eyes to the spiritual realm.: “And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha – 2 King 6: 17- 20

So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him. Isaiah 59: 19 – 20

Verse 10 exhorted: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

– Amen! Thank you, Lord. All we need to do is place our trust in the power and capabilities of our God. He is able to accomplish all things. Although His ways may often seem incomprehensible to us, we must remember that He is a wise God who holds our hands and mindful of us. He sees tomorrow from today and has a solution to all problems. Even in the midst of chaos, when it feels like there’s nothing else to hold onto, we must cling to the hem of His garment.

Verse 11 emphasized verse 7: “The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.”

– No one ever walks with God and regrets. His name is a strong tower. Under His wing is peace and security. Certainly, the Eternal God is our refuge, and underneath us are the everlasting arms that carry, keep, and sustain us.

Sometimes, God may calm our storm, and sometimes, He may decide to calm us in the storm of life to build us up. Regardless of any situation, we must run to God and not from God.

Job, in his extremely chaotic life, said: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him: but I will maintain mine own ways before Him – Job 13:15. As admonished in Romans 8, nothing should separate us from the love of Christ.

Life’s chaos and challenges are inevitable, but they do not have to define us. By anchoring ourselves in faith and embracing the lessons within the turbulence, we can find peace and emerge stronger. Let us hold onto the promise that, no matter how fierce the storm, we are under the watchful care of a faithful and loving God.

Benefit of a True Fellowship:

There are many treasures in the Word of God. When we go to church, we tap into the resources of heaven through His words. God abides in His temple and reveals secrets to our fulfillment and lasting joy through His words.

We can not but thank God for all our pastors who, like Moses, tarry before God to bring His words to our thirsting souls. May they never lose their rewards in Jesus’ Name.

I personally bless God for being there always for us and He remains the Anchor of our soul. Thanks for this admonition. God will increase your knowledge of His will.

Tony Antonellis believes religion should be discussed more in public, as the world is divided by religious sects. For The Love of God calls for humanity to unite under God’s connection, promoting “God-centeredness” as a pluralistic, open-ended understanding…
