Choosing Our True Identity

Choosing Our True Identity

identity

The story of the world; whether between states, across continents, or over territories, has, from ancient times until now, been shaped by struggles for power, exploitation, revenge, war, hatred, pride, and the continual pursuit of advancement. Beneath every circumstance is a force we can not fully comprehend. However, when enlightenment emerged, things began to change for the better. Humanity seemed to be on an upward path; until suddenly, the trajectory shifted again.

Social media entered the world as something good, yet it has also become a tool in the hands of the enemy, setting people against one another even as it connects us. And still, no one can fix the world’s problems in a way that satisfies our deepest hopes. We either allow the information around us to crush us and reshape our identity, or we submit to the truth that comes from the Kingdom of Christ; the One who speaks to the foundations of the world and reveals the deep things of the Spirit.

Thus far, nothing compares to the gospel of Christ. It alone speaks clearly of true goodness, peace, and hope. God’s plan is to soften our hearts and reshape us into His likeness. As the minister preached on Sunday: Will you choose your nationality and race as your highest identity, or will you choose to be a true Christian? Will we reflect the values of our culture or the culture of Christ?

There are thousands of cultures across the globe, but only one culture in Christ.

Scripture admonishes believers to keep their hearts with all diligence, and in the world we live in today, we can not afford to forget this. We are called to die to ourselves and choose God’s way. His desire is that we live for Him, not for the patterns and pressures of culture, the preacher passionately emphasized. Jesus is our true fulfillment; He is the Living Bread. In Him is our peace and our sustaining wisdom.

So the choice rests with each one of us.

Culture or Christ?

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

– John 14:1,27

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

1- John 16:33
