The Power of Choice

One of my husband’s professors, despite passionately teaching on the dangers of smoking, was a chain smoker. When asked why he continued the habit despite his knowledge, he simply replied, “Something has to kill a man.” Sadly, he eventually died of lung cancer.
This real-life story reminds us that our choices are seeds that will one day bear fruit. Every decision we make today shapes the life we will live tomorrow. As one songwriter said, “The miracle is in your hand”, so are our choices. And as Moses urged, “I have set before you life and death… choose life, that you may live.”
Life is a series of choices, and each one carries weight. Some choices lead to growth, joy, and purpose; others lead to regret, pain, and even destruction. We are free to choose, but we are not free from the consequences of those choices.
Even when life feels uncertain and the right path seems hidden, choosing life, love, wisdom, truth, and choosing God is never in vain. In a world full of enticing shortcuts and fleeting pleasures, let us be wise. Let us walk in the way of truth, hope, and righteousness.
Don’t get distracted by the deceptive mirages this world offers.
Don’t get carried away by the frustration and pain that flood our days.
Don’t lose heart because of prayers and expectations that are denied or yet to be fulfilled.
Don’t rush into decisions—both short-term and long-term choices have their consequences.
Don’t be possessed by the delusions and fleeting fads of our times.
We must never let the hatred and bitterness around us steal our own light.
Instead, let love, wisdom, and God inspire our every choice. Let them be our compass when the road ahead seems unclear.
Our destiny is not a matter of chance; it’s a matter of choice. Every day, the invitation is set before us:

Choose love. Choose life. Choose hope. Choose God.
The power to choose is a gift. Let’s use it wisely—let’s choose right.
