The Past

Everyone got a past, pleasant and/or unpleasant. Yes, if we could go back to the past, we would do some things differently. But the reality is, the past is dead. We could only learn from it, rectify what could be rectified, and allow the past to rest in peace.

You don’t go to the burial ground to disturb the corpses, so you must let the past lay low in their graves. Visiting burial grounds does not end with rejoicing but sadness and depression. Dwelling in some past could be likewise depressing!

Let it go!

The past should make a better person out of us rather than being an instrument of obstruction to our today and tomorrow. No matter how hard or painful, let any afflicting past go. Embrace the better today for a brighter tomorrow.

The journey of life is unique to every individual. We meet with different bends on our journey. As we maneuver our bends and navigate our crossroads, we learn and grow. In fact, God spoke to this in the book of Isaiah 43:18 & 19, that we should

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert

Isaiah 43: 18,19

Let the afflicting past rest in peace! Reach out to the better version of you daily.

Stick to the “…I am the Lord that healeth thee“, Exodus 15:26 (KJV). He can fix anything.

The Bitter Truth

How comfortable will you be if your pastor asks people to stand up during a sermon as he calls out different sins alphabetically and you identify your own?

Some responsibilities take a lot of courage to do. Pastor Dennis was concerned that many Pastors shy away from addressing the issue of sins in their sermons. People are careful not to offend anybody or make people feel uncomfortable. So, one Sunday, during his sermon, he used the alphabets ABC to Z to illustrate the sins that people commit. The congregation must spot their sins as the preacher dig them out from A to Z. It must have been a long list in a long day.

The message was not a popular one. Some days after the teaching, a member who attended the service invited the pastor out for a coffee. As they relaxed over the drinks the man started to talk. He told the pastor I hated you for your sermon on Sunday. As you started from alphabet A (Adultery), I was convicted of my adultery. Right there, he confessed everything to the pastor and the Lord used that man of God to resolve issues in the man’s home. This repentant man got his life back and got his home restored. So, mercy prevailed.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The topic of sin is a bitter one as it tampers with our fleshly lust. It infringes on our comfort zone of sinful pleasure. As indicated in the Bible, flesh conflicts with the spirit. The stress and challenges of life do not make things easy either. Regardless, God frown at sins. The Bible says God cannot behold iniquity. But then, He made provision for the forgiveness of sins by giving His only begotten Son for the redemption of man. To enjoy this benefit, we must accept that offer of salvation by repenting from our sins, turn away from them unto God. That is what the church is all about. Upon this foundation rest ‘every other thing’.

Matthew 28:18-20: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
[19]Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20]Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

As Jesus ascended, he gave the commission to his faithful and loyal disciples to run with. That is why the preacher must bring that bitter truth of repentance from sins on the table along with the other meals. Sin is a battle of the mind, and in battle, you either lose or win. Issue of sins is the main reason Jesus gave His life. Christ delivers not only from afflictions and sicknesses but also from sin. He knew that we cannot help ourselves. He knew the prince of this world would do anything to bring his victims into the snares and keep them there. Christ knew that there are consequences for living in sins and dying in sin. So, Christ died to redeem us from the hand of the taskmaster. Jesus created a path and access to the fountain of life, who He is. To be a faithful preacher or minister is to obey the great commission by telling your congregation the truth “whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear,” People deserve to know the truth because it is the truth that sets free.

Proverbs says: The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso put his trust in the Lord shall be safe Proverbs 29:25.

The preacher can pray for boldness to declare the truth and to declare it in love, hope, and wisdom. Nothing else saves but the truth. This is the solid foundation of Christianity. The role of pastors and preachers is to preach the whole truth of the words of God. The persistent motivational preaching may appeal to the flesh but endangers the spirit.

May the Lord grant our pastors the needed grace, boldness, and wisdom in Jesus’ Name.

The Miracle of Twenty Years

Gordon Hostter survived intensive Care Unit (ICU). He was there for some time—but not without God and the ministering angels—while a group of friends kept sending prayers to heaven on his behalf. The wave of prayers was channeled towards him and emptied themselves upon him. Gordon testified that he could feel that some intercessors were interceding for him. God answered the prayers, Gordon came out of it, out of sickness and fear of death.

As Gordon held on to his walker amid the group to share his testimony, he began with handing out a book written on prayers by Elizabeth George titled: “A Woman After God’s Own Heart”. He quickly went into his tiny sheets of paper to share a brief exhortation on Prayers. Gordon has been a pastor for several years. In his old age and with the health challenges, his language of faith did not change. His faith in God remains strong.

Gordon’s face shone in a special way that morning as he glowed with joy. For twenty years, people have been praying for the salvation of a loved one, Roger, and all seemed to have given up on him. Gordon would not. Two weeks ago, as said by Gordon, he received a unique call from Roger, who was beaming over the phone as he shared his testimony of salvation. The Lord had done it in His time. The drops of prayers here and there had formed a mighty ocean in which Roger was submerged. The fountain of life had found him at the crossroad, and he had said YES to the Lord Jesus Christ.

With God, all things are possible. We are reminded not to ever give up on any of our loved ones. The weariness would come at a point, but we must keep believing. Christ died for all, and He is still “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance”. Our loved ones are part of people Christ died for too.

A prayer is a powerful tool. It is an act the Holy Spirit leads and teaches. When we release ourselves to God, His Spirit will move us to pray according to His will. As we pray, we must also believe God for the impossible. Even when the answers seem to be delayed, we must never give up but patiently wait for them. A mother had spent all her lifetime praying for the salvation of her dear son to no avail. She eventually died not seeing the promise fulfilled. Two weeks after her death, her son came to the Lord. God is ever faithful. Things will add up eventually.

We need God and His Holy Spirit in our day-to-day life and our houses. When we create an atmosphere in our home where the Holy Spirit feels comfortable to stay, connecting with God in prayers will be an easy thing. God answers prayers.

The Act of Kindness

I had to drive several hours yesterday running an errand. At different points, I needed helping hands to complete some tasks. Those tasks were definitely greater than what I could handle. The way some random strangers came in to help at different locations was so alarming that my son kept saying: ‘people are really good, and I am still amazed at what people could do”. One of the guys had to let go of what was very useful to him when he realized that mine that I just purchased was not working well. I was so speechless. He simply told me: “Just pretend you saw it on the road and picked it up”.

God has made each one of us good. In us lies the attributes of God. Regardless of any situation, we must not let those influential attributes die. We must let love and kindness prevail. When our children see us expressing such virtues, it will naturally become part of their lives too. We can rule our world with sacrificial love, patience with one another, and relentless kindness. Someone said: Kindness is free, let’s pass it on”.

Why, Lord?

I came across this image somehow and could not help but see how a load of resources can be so useless without action, in the face of desperate need. It quickly reminded me of James 2:26, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

In every aspect of our life, God will always play His part. It is left to us to rise to the challenge of playing our part as well. There will always be one thousand and one reasons why we cannot do our part. Sitting down to pity ourselves and our predicaments will never solve our problems, but rising to the task will. Taking action could be as simple as getting up to seek help.

The same thing applies to being knowledgeable about God and yet, our life preaches the contrary. Religion without righteousness and obedience to God’s instructions is equally dead.

Who then is sufficient unto all these? The mercy of God embedded in His grace is made available for us all. We just need to nail our self-righteousness to the cross and humbly seek the righteousness of Christ.

Another challenge will be on how to differentiate between our righteousness and that of Christ. When we are consumed in the righteousness of Christ, our life reflects the fruits of the Spirit as listed in the Bible.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

-Galatians 5: 22-25 (KJV).

Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.”

– 1 Corinthians 16:14 (KJV)

Pastor/Dr. WF Kumuyi @ 80

Pastor/DR. WF Kumuyi

If you’re ever looking for a unique and exceptional man of God who remains focused, incorruptible, Bible-centric, principled, disciplined and committed, here is one: PASTOR/DR W. F. KUMUYI.

He was a first class scholar in mathematics. At this unique phase of his life, God called him into the ministry and he never second-guessed the call before yielding. His commitment to Christ could not bow to the protocols of religion. He understood his passion and would not trade it for anything, not even when he was disowned by his people. He was not afraid of standing alone for what he believes. He sacrificed his life, profession, intelligence, properties etc. to the mission of saving souls and the propagation of the Kingdom of Christ.

As a strong fan of John Wesley, he took the mantle from his Mentor and never flinched nor turned back. He stood out among many others as a man that prioritizes fulfilling a purpose over seeking popularity and attention. Reinhard Bonkie saw him as a man of integrity and couldn’t but divert many of his coverts to his ministry in which I am one. Billy Graham Evangelistic Association traveled thousands of kilometer from the USA to Nigeria to present a gift to this undaunted man of God.

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi has always been a man of fire and power in addition to being an holiness preacher. Among many other experiences I have had under his leadership was that day at International Bible Training Center (IBTC) during one of the Leadership Strategic Congresses. As I was walking through Hall 4 to seat in the front area of Hall 1, I ran to him eyeball to eyeball as he seated on his chair on the pulpit. I never expected to see him there at that particular time having understudied him for years. My eyes got stuck into his eyes and it was like I got electrocuted rightaway as I couldn’t take off my eyes from his. I don’t know how long I was hooked up in that experience before I was eventually released but I knew something happened. That occurrence couldn’t have been an accident. I went in the strength of that encounter for several months. All I needed to do those periods whenever I needed to pray was to close my eyes and remember that eyeball to eyeball encounter, the rest was always something else. Prayers were made easy. It was deep.

I know this birthday thing is not his thing, but I humbly step aside to join thousands of others in saying HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY TO OUR BELOVED FATHER IN THE LORD, A WORTHY MENTOR, PASTOR DR W. F. KUMUYI. Your impact in the life of many people is immeasurable. You started well, and put so much into the ministry. We hardly see your tears nor witness your brokenness but we are confident that He who started the good work in you will bring everything to perfection through you, in you and by you in the Name of Jesus. You will end well Sir, regardless of any plot, plan, scheme, or wile of the enemy. The fire built in you will continue to spread through the life you have directly or indirectly influenced, in Jesus Name.

Once again, Happy Birthday, Sir!

The Beauty from the Ashes

Rahab was her name. She was a public figure in a way whose name stank among many people. She was no one to be proud of or reckoned with. When listing the names of noteworthy, influential, or religious people, she was nothing close. Rahab was nothing but dirt and a dumpster in her world . As her name implies, “broad” so was her chosen field of profession, Harlotry that is still an abomination to God to date. In a nutshell, Rahab was ‘one stop short of rejection.’

Judging with the human analysis, if anybody in Rahab society was to enjoy the protection of God, it could never have been her. But then Rahab found mercy with God. Her world collapsed before her face, but she stood tall in salvation. Mercy and favor found her when she opened her heart to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Grace erased her humiliating past as she got dug out of the dunghill into the high places.

Hebrews 11:31
By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

No doubt, Rahab had heard about the God of heaven and secretly desired Him in her heart and life. Without wasting time, at the slight opportunity, she turned to the only true God for her salvation and deliverance. As God never turns any sinner away, she got adopted into the household faith. When that day of destruction came upon the land of Jericho, Rahab’s life and that of her family were spared. God remembered her faith and not her profession, nor her past.

The life of Rahab turned a significant new leaf at salvation, and she became one of the two women listed among the heroes of faith in the Bible. She also became a responsible married woman who became one of the building blocks in the genealogy of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 1:5
And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

That is the significant lesson for everyone; God is the God of mercy. He does not throw back our sins at our face but gives us the privilege to repent and turn away from them. A lawyer named Paul referenced this in his letter to Roman as he quoted from the book of Psalm 32:2 “Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.” Rahab, once known to be a prostitute, became a blessed woman.

Joshua 6:25
And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

There is no situation, sins, or stinking past that God cannot pardon and change for good. There is no stained life that cannot be cleansed and resuscitated in Christ. Whatever it is, bring it to Christ in repentance and hurry up about it because time cannot be tied down. Make today the day of a turning point, the day of salvation as tomorrow may be too late. The door of mercy and transformation of life is still open. Take advantage of it before it closes up.

Surrounded by dark situations, you can still flourish

The Associated Danger of a New Normal Education

Dear parents, be diligent with your children as they study online.

A parent cried out when she discovered that the kids’ links meant to be for their learning activities actually lead to all kinds of inappropriate sites. One thing can always lead to another and gradually lead an innocent mind into corruption. One of the children that strayed into those sites tearfully told his parent that his mind would not stop thinking about what he saw in those sites and that he would always long to go back there.

The Children’s minds are very sensitive and inquisitive. They would always want to learn more. The mind-captivating, sexually motivating sites, carefully connected to the various internet sites are like traps that draw the souls of men, especially the innocent minds, into bondages.

The subtle drawing away of these young minds of today is obviously, a hellish plot against our children and youth. The enemy schemes are to bait them into captivity, addiction, and eventual destruction but God will not allow it in Jesus’ Name. We as parents must need to sit up and sit tight, standing in the gap for our children in every area.

Even if you restrict the use of the internet for your children, you should occasionally check the setting to ensure nothing has changed. Never brush aside the questions of your children nor shut them down in their expressions. We must learn to read in between lines.

May God keep our children in His way and deliver them from every form of destruction in Jesus’ Name.
