A Tribute to Jimmy Swaggart – A Life of Gospel, Grace, and Redemption

Today, we mourn the passing and celebrate the life of Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart, a man whose voice, music, and message impacted millions across the globe. Born in Ferriday, Louisiana, Jimmy Swaggart rose to become one of the most recognized gospel artists and preachers of the 20th and 21st centuries. His music stirred hearts, his sermons ignited revival, and his ministry brought countless souls into the kingdom of God.

Through Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, birthed in the 1960s, he reached multitudes through television, crusades, recordings, and the establishment of Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His televised services and musical worship touched nations, transcending borders with the life-giving message of Jesus Christ.

Yet, like many called by God, Jimmy faced trials that tested the core of his faith and the endurance of his calling. In the late 1980s, he suffered a very public fall — a moment of deep brokenness, temptation, and humiliation. The enemy, whose agenda is to kill, steal, and destroy, seemed to have struck a fatal blow. But thank God for Jesus, who came that we might have life and have it more abundantly.

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.

Micah 7:8

Jimmy Swaggart’s story is not just about a fall but about grace, repentance, and restoration. He did not remain in the valley of shame. With humility and resilience, he rose again, not in pride but in dependence on the mercy of God. He continued to preach, sing, and minister with renewed purpose, helping others find their way back to Christ.

Let his life be a reminder to the Church: when a soldier of Christ falls, our duty is not to target their wounds, but to bind them up, pray for them, and help them stand again. When we mock or condemn the broken, we unknowingly join hands with the enemy. But when we restore, we join Jesus in His mission of redemption.

Jimmy Swaggart’s journey was not perfect, but it was powerful. His life is proof that God does not discard those who stumble — He refines them for a greater purpose. His music still heals. His teachings still echo. His endurance still inspires.

Let us also remember that this life is fleeting. One day, each of us will leave behind a name, a legacy, a story. What we do for God — how we love, serve, and influence the world — is what history will remember. And for Jimmy Swaggart, history will tell of a man who fell but rose again by the grace of God — and finished his race.

We extend heartfelt condolences to the Swaggart family, the members of Family Worship Center, and every soul worldwide who was ever touched by his music or ministry.

Finally, we raise a prayer for every minister of the gospel today:

Lord, grant all Your servants grace to stand strong. Keep them in the secret place of the Highest. Help them to uphold the truth of the gospel and be more watchful. Protect them from all the wiles of the enemy and continue to keep them as the apple of Your eyes, Lord. May they continue to enjoy the blessings of your presence in their lives, homes, ministries, and in their spiritual walk with You.  Supply their needs in every ramification of life and strengthen them in the place of holiness and prayers. Keep them from all evil and fill them with your power and grace. Let every messenger of the cross finish well, to the glory of Your name. Amen.

Rest well, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart. You kept the faith. You finished the race. Your voice may be silent on earth, but it echoes forever in eternity.
