That day of Christ’s crucifixion was a day of sacrifice, shame, humiliation, rejection, pain, loneliness amidst the multitude. It was a day of death.
Jesus knew it beforehand and still surrendered himself to it.
Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. Matthew 20:18-19
History was made till date, that Christ went through all these for the redemption of the souls of men. That is why Jesus Christ doesn’t cast anyone that comes to Him away, but give them power to become a transformed person.
“Surely he hath borne our griefs,
and carried our sorrows:
yet we did esteem him stricken,
smitten of God, and afflicted’. Isaiah 53:4.
The door of mercy and salvation is still open to all.
“And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left”. Luke 23:33
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, IT IS FINISHED: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30
Thus the reason for the “Good Friday”; Jesus sacrificial death to buy us salvation from the eternal judgement.
